St. Augustine, Florida & St. Johns County has been growing at an amazing rate! As one of the fastest growing counties in the state, they have been making big plans to help with the growth of the area and the rapidly overpopulting schools.

According to Action News Jacksonville, St. Johns County has a plan for nearly $350 million dollars to be used for new builds, repairs, maintenance, and remodeling projects over the next five to ten years. The plans include the building of eleven new schools as well as the expansion of some of the current school buildings. According to News4Jax, it is projected that the new schools will reduce the percentage of portable classrooms used in the district from 19% to 1% by 2025.

Some of the new schools are expected to be completed by the summer of 2022 and ready for the 2022-2023 school year. A 73-acre lot has already been cleared and readied for construction.

The mascots, colors, and names of the schools are still being determined. The St. Johns county school districts will be making final decisions in the coming weeks.

The big changes happening in St. Johns are expected to increase local revenue, home values, and job openings.
